Title: Couch Cuddling
Artist: [livejournal.com profile] vardaslade
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Artist's summary: Sherlock doesn't really sleep, but that doesn't mean couch naps are a complete waste of time...
Reccer's comments: The perfect piece of art for a lazy Saturday afternoon. I love [livejournal.com profile] vardaslade’s style, and the details here are really fun (I can’t get over how adorable John’s socks are). Also, the scene itself is just heart-warming. Title: Thy Mother's Glass (Part 1)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] flecalicious
Pairing: mainly gen for now with Amy/Rory (Doctor Who), and alleged John/Sherlock in later parts
Length: approx. 8,000 words (this part)
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Drug use, WIP. The author also warns for Sherlock s1 and DW s5 spoilers.
Verse: Sherlock BBC crossover with Doctor Who
Author's summary: Mycroft, they decide, and then seven years later Sherlock; alien names for not-quite-alien children. In which Sherlock's parents are called Amy and Rory and he's born outside of time.

Reccer's comments: Alright, I have been sitting on this one for freaking months. I kind of jumped on the November rec spot because that is exactly when the statute of limitations for WIPs would be up on this fic. So. Okay. Basically, if [livejournal.com profile] flecalicious writes it, I will read it, enjoy it, and probably rec it forward because odds are it will be magnificent. This particular story, however, has lots more to recommend it, for instance: even though it's a WIP, it reads as fairly complete. There have been hints of more to the story, but what is there is already satisfying on its own. So you won't be going crazy with the need to know what happens next. You'll want more, but that's not really the same thing. Additionally, it's a crossover, and it's a Doctor Who crossover which is fairly common. Those are two things I love, but I know as well as anyone how terribly wrong that sort of thing can go. Here, it's absolutely, perfectly done right. Flec draws out all the best bits of both canons and weaves them together in a way that has you wondering if this is, in fact, an AU after all. Not only does it make sense that these two fandoms should go together in this particular way, it's written with that delicate touch that makes it not a Sherlock story with cameos by DW characters, nor a DW story with bonus Sherlock Holmes, but a whole new animal that is legitimately about both of them. And it is completely heartbreaking for the most part, but my god. The last four lines. They will make everything alright again in the universe.

I fear this is getting long and rambling and off-putting, so I'll leave you with this snippet: warning: drug use, and prose so lovely you may never want to write again. )

(Happy Bonfire Night, for those of you where it is still the fifth!)
