Title: The World On His Wrist
Author: [livejournal.com profile] bendingsignpost
Pairing: pre-slash Sherlock/John
Length: 31.1 k
Rating: Pg-13
Warnings: implied character death
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: First, he is shot in Afghanistan. Second, he wakes to a phone call in Chelmsford, Essex. Third is pain, fourth is normalcy, fifth is agony and sixth is confusion. By the eighth, he's lost track. (John-centric AU)
Reccer's comments: This is an *amazing* parallel universe story, that's just the perfect amount of timey-whiney. Some alternative universe version of you will weep if you don't read this fic, believe me!

Title: The Best of a Bad Lot
Author: [livejournal.com profile] shiny_n_new
Pairing: Gen
Length: approx. 7k
Rating: Pg-13
Warnings: violence
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Sherlock and Lestrade meet in different, dangerous circumstances, and Lestrade ends up in over his head.
Reccer's comments: This author has some really great stuff and I literally ended up flipping a coin to decided which of shiny-n-new's stories to rec. I seriously urge you to just go read the other 2 as well, because they are just as brilliant (if not even more brilliant) than this story. As for this one, Sherlock is a serial killer and Lestrade has figured it out. What's not to like?? Even the complete absence of John doesn't take away from the entertainment value.

Title: Birds to a Lighthouse
Author: [livejournal.com profile] katieforsythe
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Length: 53,656
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: None
Verse: Books
Author's summary: Every story has a Reichenbach, and this is theirs: what did James Moriarty do to cause Holmes to abandon his family for three years?

Reccer's comments:I've been sitting on this rec for MONTHS, terrified that someone would beat me to posting it. No one has, and I'm thrilled to post this.

Mary Morstan gets a varied treatment in fandom, not always favorable in slash fics as she tends to complicate things a bit. Katie Forsyth's treatment of Mary is unique and breathtaking.

There's a fairly memorable sex scene towards the beginning of the story that may ward off readers who fear it's just another PWP. It's far, far, far more than that. The Moriarty plot line is brilliantly suspenseful, and Sherlock's decision to separate from John is literally painful to read.
