Title: A Brief History of Modern Magic (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 3.1, Part 3.2, Part 3.3 - NOTE: Incomplete series that hasn't updated since November)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] ristrettoette
Pairing: John & Sherlock (seems to be pre-slash, but it's difficult to say; slashy enough, if you prefer)
Length: 12,300 (across all parts)
Rating: PG-13 (across all parts)
Warnings: Occasional macabre imagery
Verse: Sherlock (BBC)
Author's Summary: Inspector Lestrade was well aware that Sherlock Holmes—uniquely, in this modern age—was, in fact, a practicing magician: an English magician, perhaps the first since Jonathan Strange.

Reccer's Comments: ABSOLUTELY EXQUISITE. Technically incomplete (see header), this is by and far the most engrossing crossover that I've encountered in this fandom. Although the intersection of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and Sherlock seems to be quite an obscure knowledge set, I can promise you that not having read JS & MrN shouldn't be enough to prevent the reader from appreciating this dazzling sequence. For those of you who have read it, you'll doubtless be struck by the skillful fusion of the universes in question, not to mention [livejournal.com profile] ristrettoette's astonishing footnotes (in fact, the footnotes are finely crafted stories in and of themselves, which is something I'd hesitate to claim for every one of Ms. Clarke's footnotes in the source material). I have no idea if this series will ever be completed, but I'd rather have what's there than none of it at all. I remain astounded at how little attention it's gotten!

Title: Ain’t Seen the Sunshine (Since I Don’t Know When)
Author: Eleanor K
Pairing: John/Lestrade
Length: 27,700 words
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Can't think of any
Verse: Sherlock
Author's summary: Written for a prompt on the Sherlock fic meme where John is Sherlock and Mycroft’s nanny. It’s also somehow warped into a massive retelling of Hound of the Baskervilles.
Reccer's comments: I love this verse so much. I know the premise sounds cracky but the storytelling is amazing.  I am not really a John/Lestrade shipper but John and Lestrade are really very cute here.   The real heart of this story is the relationship that develops between John and 5 year old Sherlock and 12 year old Mycroft.  Even if you don't like kidfic give this story a chance.  The kids in question are Sherlock and Mycroft after all and they are both perfectly themselves, just as kids.

Title: Snowflakes (Like Dust in the Sun)
Author: Eleanor K
Pairing: John/Lestrade
Length: 6,741 words
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Can't think of any
Verse: Sherlock
Author's summary: Christmas sequel to "Ain't Seen The Sunshine"
Reccer's comments:  This is a very sweet story and really it's a day in the life of this odd, adorable little family just before Christmas. There are also two blogs in this verse.  John's blog Nothing Happens to Me and Lestrade's Interesting murders not boring stuff .  These blogs are fabulous and much better written than the blogs put out by the BBC.  They are interactive fan fic chronicling the lives of John, Lestrade, and the boys. They are so much fun to read.  The conversations in the comments are usually a blast.   I really can not recommend this verse highly enough.
