[identity profile] unovis.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] 221b_recs
You're welcome to leave recs in comments to this post. Any version of Sherlock Holmes is eligible, and any fan work of fic, art, vids, or podfic. Please feel free to recommend WIPs as well. We'd rather have individual recs than links to external rec lists, however. If you have any questions, please comment or PM one of the mods.

Also, we're still looking for reccers for November. Please sign up here in comments.

Three of the WIPs I am following:

I'm not usually into crack, but I can heartily recommend Mirith Griffin's XO (http://archiveofourown.org/works/470545/chapters/813858). Sentient lava lamps? Pregnant pandas? This sci-fi AU has both. S/J.

EmmaDeLosNardos has updated her sophisticated, erotic psychological character study of John, That Obscure Object (http://archiveofourown.org/works/463195/chapters/798936). Covers his childhood and is currently partway through S1. Pre-slash S/J so far. Hurrah for a fic that takes both the therapist and the patient seriously! IOW, Ella is not incompetent or ignorant. Full disclosure: This fic was written for me.

Something that I may read between my fingers (you'll understand why if you've seen the film or read the novel): [livejournal.com profile] shouldboverthis's Un homme dangereux (http://archiveofourown.org/works/539274/chapters/957817), an AU based on _Dangerous Liaisons_. S/J. Epistolary, like the original novel.

And one completed work:

A gorgeous one-shot by [livejournal.com profile] lizeckhart (ProfessorFangirl), The Phoenix and the Dove (http://archiveofourown.org/works/476985). Erotic, lovely prose. Inspired by a prompt involving Shakespeare's poem "The Phoenix and the Turtle". S/J.
Excerpt: “How bright he burns, John thinks, back from the dead. John can’t stop looking at him. He glows with his own impossible aliveness; he is limned in miracle, foxfire of the soul. Beside him John is small, and grey, and soft in his oatmeal jumper. He cannot possibly match this fire; his small self can’t be enough. He is almost invisible next to this great burning bird.”

I'm waiting impatiently for Emma to finish the study on John. If it is as good as the one she did on Sherlock, it will be well worth the wait. Un homme dangereux looks intriguing but quite ambitious. I'll be watching with interest to see how it goes.

venusinthenight: joan watson and sherlock holmes walking down the street (elementary - sherlock/joan)

Title: When Joan Met Sally by mnemosyne on AO3
Characters: Joan Watson, Sally Donovan
Rating: G
Warnings: Author has "Chose not to use warnings" selected, but personally, I don't think any standard ones apply.
Verses: BBC + Elementary
Author's Summary: "In which Sally Donovan fails to spend Christmas in New York alone."

A lovely crossover wherein Sally is in New York City for Christmas, meets Joan at a coffee shop, and strikes up a conversation. I'd love to see a continuation of this. If not, the two of them would have loads of stories to share with each other. *nods*

* * *

And one more Elementary fic rec...

Title: A true story? by Dominatrix on AO3
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, Joan Watson
Rating: G
Warnings: Spoilers for 1x03
Author's Summary: "Sherlock reveals that there was this very special boy in boarding school who used to beat him up just because he was a know-it-all. He corrected afterwards and said it was all not true, but Joan is just not ready to believe that."

A lovely hurt/comfort piece.
