Reccer's comments:  I’m honestly not sure whether I’m more horrified or comforted by the direction this fic went. It takes a huge detour off the beaten path and tries to answer the question: Is it better to have loved and lost, or never to have loved at all… or maybe there is a third option? One that will get under your skin and stick with you.

A few months ago, I watched the Black Mirror episode that this fic was based on, and had the idle thought that it would be heartbreaking to see such a scenario play out with John and Sherlock (because I, apparently, cannot consume any media without John and Sherlock crossing my mind at some point.)

This fic is every bit as disturbing and heartwrenching as I could have imagined. I really like this author. Thanks for reccing this!

From what I recall of the episode, this fic mostly just borrows the concept and some small scenes and takes it in a new direction that's entirely John and Sherlock. :)

What an amazing story -- thank you for recommending it. And also thank you for the death warning, because I needed to be braced hard, which I was. (Never having seen "Black Mirror," I was clueless.)
