Reccer's comments: In a fandom with innumerable first time fics, this one stands out for me. I think it nails its characterization, and it's funny. Yet at the same time it lays out small details that are so real in their sadness. It is set in Series 1, and it touches deftly on the details of John's poverty and his unspoken depression. It captures Sherlock's confounding brattiness and eventually shows us the reasons behind it. It teases us with glimpses of cases, and one of my favorite moments is actually case-centric, when John makes a quiet deduction in a dark library. The ending puts everything right. A delightful fic from an impressive author.
