Reccer's comments: This is quite possibly one of my favourite ACD!canon fics, written for this year's holmes_big_bang; it has the advantage of being primarily a case fic, with a second focus on Holmes and Watson's relationship. flawedamythyst does an excellent job out of everybody's characterization, especially Watson, whose confrontation with Moriarty is both chilling and very believable. The double case of suspense — that related to the case, and that related to whether Holmes and Watson are ever going to come to grips with each other — leaves you very breathless until the very end. The art accompanying the story is gorgeous, strongly inspired by Paget's original pictures, and the final result is that of a very complete, very emotionally satisfying story.
